This could start an interesting thread:
My first SS:
Gonset Super 6 receiving converter into a broadcast receiver; DX-20 with
VF-1 running 50 watts to a folded dipole made of twinlead. No antenna
tuner - just shove the twinlead into the SO-239 and hope for the best.
Competitive? No. Fun? Probably the most fun I ever had on HR. Every QSO
was a thrill. I was so nervous I couldn't send straight on my J-38. I
worked a few guys who were at this point in the hobby this weekend. I
slowed down for every one - with a big smile on my face. It was a thrill to
hear someone with the courage to call me at 10 WPM while I was running at
the speed I run these days, and to be on the other end of a 'thrill contact'
for a newcomer.
SS really holds a special place for many of us....

Well Robert I for one know how that is. I ran my first SSCW many years
ago....I used a Hallicrafters TO Keyer, a Vibroplex paddle, a Knight Kit
T-50, a Hallicrafters SX-111....all this into a folded dipole on 40.
Over the years it got better.....Hang in there.
