Well, if N4PN still has that old Drake R4A, that might be something to
look into. I swear, that thing could hear signals which weren't there.
The other thing to consider would be Tom Crosby's HBR. I built one
many many years ago, and it put anything on the market on its back.
The tuning gear was expensive, about $75, and had to be ordered from G
land, but it was smooth as silk.
For you youngsters, this was a tube type receiver, direct point to
point wiring, with homemade coils for each band.
Just a comment on one of Tom's comments. Below 20 meters, we would be
far better off with no RF stage.
