The desk I currently use is actually a L-shaped office desk I bought from Office Depot a few years back. The frame is totally metal and the glass fits on top. It rattles quite bad when I type on my laptop. The glass is 1/4 inch tempered glass which is pretty tuff stuff considering how many time this glass has fallen over when I was moving this desk. It is ok I guess for an office but not for the abuse I generally give a operating desk. I like to drill holes for computer and radio cables.

What I am actually building is going to measure 3 X 8 feet, with the top 30 inches off the floor. I have built these desks for many local amateurs and they love them.

Now I have to figure out what to do with my "glass" desk. It may just go out in the shed in pieces (the frame) for storage until I can find someone who wants it.

take care all

About KI8W's desk...
unless you use heavy duty glass, like 3/8" or more, forget it.
As a retired glazier, I drilled a lot of holes in glass. Not fun!
With 1/4" (actually less these days), one stands very good
chance of breakage, dropping, leaning or just looking the
'wrong' way. We have one desk with 3/8" top (30x60) that
has lasted about 25 years.
