Much has been said about this RM. A few, in my view, simple facts are
evident to me.
1. There has been almost zero widespread desire for this petition.
2. The driving force behind this petition is a single ARRL Director.
3. The ARRL BoD did NOT solicit or take a survey of the membership on
this matter /prior/ to submitting the petition.
4. The argument /*for*/ the petition on EMCOM grounds are without
factual basis.
5. The argument/*for */the petition on technical merit have been shown
to be an attempt allow wide-band proprietary
systems entry into the amateur radio bands .
6. The inability to read these new systems by a third party is reason
enough to deny the petition based on existing rules.
7. The 'holier than thou' attitude taken by the ARRL BoD and */staff/*
has done much to alienate many Life Members. Myself included.
In our business, and most of life, if you want to see who or why
something is being pursued against the flow by a few determined
individuals follow the money. See who stands to benefit from a course of
action; That will tell you more than anything else.
If the Amateur Radio call-sign holding boat and yacht skippers want
secure email while away from the dock there are commercial
services already available.
with respect,
