FYI-

http://www.arrl.org/news/arrl-files-symbol-rate-petition-with-fcc

The only way to protest/stop this, or agree with this, threat to classic RTTY mode Rag-chewing/DXing,Contesting as we know it, will be to file a personal comment with the FCC.... filings by a lot of individuals, especially individuals with national, world or continental contest participation, regardless of final ranking/placement, VS ARRL special interest group petitions will make an impression. We can't be stupid enough to think that 'money doesn't talk', but there is such a thing as "weight of numbers".

While we must all think as individuals, and express our opinions as individuals (the FCC routinely frowns on, and almost always ignores 'canned letter campaign' responses), there are very articulate and 'lettered'/knowledgeable/published members of 'our' RTTY community who could contribute suggestions for ways to express the real threat to our preferred mode of rag-chewing, DXing, or Contesting.

Currently there is no FCC 'Request for Comment', but that is only a matter of time, based on the amount of pre-publicity and breast-beating coming from Newington.

73,
Ben - WB2RHM 50 year ARRL Life Member (but not happy)
