Not true. You can take open source code and, depending on the
license, redistribute a modifed-yet-crappy version, but those are
caught quickly (and, in many cases, ridiculed :-). If you contribute
code to the main project, your code isn't likely to make it into the
tree without scrutiny.
To my knowledge, the MMTTY source has not been forked and I am not
even aware of a new release using contributed code, but I certainly
look forward to it. At least one of the gate keepers to the source is
here and can speak to that if he wants.
As for PacTOR, I didn't think they had open-source anything. They may
have licensed their OTA protocol, but that's not exactly the same
thing.
