I've used magnetic reed switches for discreet switching while keeping the appearance standard. They work fine inside the case with a small button or bar magnet outside. Never had a problem with steel casings getting magnetised enough to operate the switch permanently.

 Don't forget this event:

The Second BARTG 75 Baud Sprint.

17:00 - 21:00z Sunday 22nd September 2013

Four hours of hectic activity and great fun. Hope to work you!

Please read the rules: http://www.bartg.org.uk/documents/contests/sprint75/rules/bartg-sprint75-rules-september-2013.pdf

Just got a RigExpert and it looks like the baud setting for FSK is a
jumper ... but ... I only need to short one set of header pins to go
from 45.45 to 75. Thought about a little latching SPST pushbutton but
don't want to cut the case (I've only had it for 6 hours!) so how
about a magnetic reed switch? Never used one before - would it work
with a metal case?
