Jim,
You are so very right. On both counts. Especially the lids...
The urination contests occurring between the over zealous dx police, naive
rookies who seem to have no idea of how to properly work
dx split, and in some cases, guys accidentally working split but having the
wrong VFO selected for TX [uh, em, ah, er, .. I did that
a couple of times myself, sorry to say], it was tough to hear the dx.
On RTTY, it was just incredible. Between the guys tuning up on top of the dx,
the good intentioned UP/UP you hear on cw had been
taken to the extreme resulting in dissertations by guys talking about another
ham's mother, etc. I think the occasional up/up can
help - but this nonsense of RYRYRYRY when the DX transmits is outrageous.
While trying to work the 20m rtty combo, I heard one
do-gooder transmitting on top of the DX who they thought the QRM source was -
of the other idiot's RYRYRY QRM. As if this QRM was
justified and the RYRYRY was somehow a greater offensive QRM? What are these
guys thinking?
If I am someday voted king of the universe, the first thing I will do is to
make intentional jamming of dx a capital offense. ha
ha.

As long as DXCC Challenge, DeSoto Cup and the "ego satisfying" attempts to
stay at the top of the Honor Roll exists, the DX Code of Conduct is not
applicapable! For the few that "work them and shut up", many, many more try
and work them on as many bands/modes as possible. I await the day a "rare"
DXpedition, that has online log availability, and publishes their operating
style, penalizes duplicate band callers by removing all of their other
contacts? If one is sure that they are in the online log, I see absolutely
no reason for another attempt, on the same band. In the case of a new
entity, "once per band/mode" should be enforced? I also believe that the DX
has most of the responsibility of "controlling the pileup"?
