The canned macros do allow English and non English speaking hams to have a
digital QSO that otherwise would not occur. Also hams like myself with very
limited use of his hands due to rheumatoid arthritis can also have a digital
QSO.

The brag tapes that many PSK31 ops still use date back to the beginning of
HF PSK31 use approximately eleven years ago. With most everyone being rusty
on typing, using AFSK and slow computers it was a status symbol to brag
about a computer with a fast processor, lot's of RAM, a high quality sound
card and "paid for" software such as MixW. It's the same as on SSB when one
brags about the 3000 watt Alpha amplifier, StepIR beam on a 130 foot Rohn 45
tower and SO2R with Icom IC-7800's.

BTW I've seen my share of RTTY ops and contesters, some of which are on this
email reflector, use the same canned macros including brags while operating
PSK31.

I personally don't operate much PSK31 anymore as I find it boring. For me
it's almost always RTTY including rag chewing, DXing and contesting. I also
use the EME mode JT65A on HF which has been adapted via the software called
JT65-HF which came from WSJT7. This mode is all canned macros with
successful QSO's occurring at -30 db below the background noise with low
power.
