Check your BIOS setup screens to see if you can enable the other
soundcard. I had a compaq which gave me a problem like yours until I
discovered I could change things in the BIOS setup.
Your AC97 will probably work fine for ham software apps. I use mine
AOK with WL and MMTTY.
