Hi Dick, and all,
Yes, WAEDC is this coming weekend, and QTC's are a great part of this
contest! Entering QEDC and NOT handling QTC's is severely limiting your
score, and are well worth the hassle.
Each QTC - usually sent in batches of 10, is equivalent to 10 QSO's.
Without QTC's, 100 contacts with 50 mults is 100 X 50 = 5000 points.
With QTC's, 100 contacts + 100 QTC with 50 mults is (100 + 100) X 50 = 10000
points.
Well worth the difference!
As you have already seen, check out my web page (put there for just this
type of instance!) http://www.guernsey.net/~pcooper/waedc.html which will
tell you what QTC's are, and how to handle them.
The first time handling QTC's can be a little daunting, but once you know
what you SHOULD see, either Rx or Tx, then it does become a little easier.
How you handle them depends on what software you are using. With Writelog,
it is quite easy.
If you are indeed using Writelog, then I suggest that you check out the
buffers on Don's website of www.rttycontesting.com first of all.
Unlike other contests, WAEDC reserves a few of the buffers for QTC handling.
This means you need to know what they are and how they work.
Open the contest and start entering random calls (15 - 20 or so), some W/VE,
and also some from another continent.
Now enter a (for example) G call, and see what happens when you try to send
or receive some QTC's.
I would have to say that sending is easier, as you don't have much to do,
other than maybe resend a particular line, so do check how to do that!
For receiving, you have to click on a line of data once it is complete, and
in WL, it turns a pink-ish colour, but you can get into a bit of a mess if
you miss-click and put the wrong bit in the wrong place.
This is a great example of just how useful the facility in MMTTY is that
allows you to record all incoming data!
If you make a real pig's ear of it, don't worry too much, and you could
complete it later.
Hope to find you in the contest!
