One of the best things I've found to check your signal is to have another receiver handy to listen to what you are sending.

When I first used the sound card and the interface, I thought I was doing OK till someone told me that I had a crummy signal. I had a fellow across town tune me in and let me listen over the phone and it DID sound crummy. I was able to clean it up and it works fine now. I finally broke down and bought an old TS-430 to use as a second radio and a monitor. Sure made me feel a lot better to be able to monitor my own signal. Even tried SO2R with it (but I guess that is a different subject).

I am beginning to see some possibilities for objective evaluation - perhaps do an audio spectral analysis and evaluate the time-integrated shape factors of a RYRY signal. Maybe something like "Analyzer 2000" could do the capture. Any other thoughts? Surely some of you techies have ideas. Wouldn't this be worthwhile?

I have <2 years RTTY experience but I know when I can't decode a signal
(probably happens 1 time each contest) I tell the station that they have an
potential problem, I would hope and expect everyone else would do the same?

Then again I am not Big Time Radio and I mostly contest just for fun, (at
least when I am SO), even so I still manage to get an odd certificate here
and there, (helps to enter in the "right" category sometimes, ;-))

Happy Holidays to all,

Sure would be nice if someone with quality receiving equipment and the
skill to operate it in a laboratory setup mode could set up a "Clinic" some
Saturday afternoon(s) to help guys evaluate their transmitted RTTY sigs.
Not sure what it would take, but it sure would help lots of us who have to
just trust and hope we are operating OK.
