Well, many of you guys were very much missed! It also seems that many JA's
were playing in their own contest, and a few OK/OM's were also playing in a
contest.
This was my first attempt at WAEDC with Writelog, and Oh Boy! It was much
easier than using WF1B for the QTC's. However, I did make a few mistakes
when clicking on the QTC batch number before it got highlighted, but
generally, it is so much easier to be able to click the whole line, rather
than having to race the mouse all over the place trying to click on each
item individually.
So, what of the contest? Great fun, but conditions were not as good as they
have been of late, and it seemed to me that 20m was quite hard work.
Nice to get 3XY7C in the log on 10m, but I didn't even bother trying them on
20m, as the pile-up was totally silly. Well done to them, though, for
battling it out, and giving many a chance of a new one.
I also enjoyed working 6J1L Luis on 10m, and thanks to him for being patient
over the exchange, as it was a bit marginal.
Despite reading the "fine rules", I still almost missed out on things like
UA9 and UA0 being seperate mults, and I was even puzzled for a minute or
three when, having worked many UA9's, a UA0 showed up yellow!
I had planned to operate though the night on Saturday evening, but my trusty
half-size G5RV would not play ball with me on 20m, but was OK on all other
bands. The SWR was way up, and wasn't stable at all, and 40m was way too
noisy to be comfortable.
I set my internal alarm clock for 5am, but must have ignored it, as I didn't
wake up till 07.30!
I checked the G5RV, and then saw that one arm was touching part of my wire
vertical, so a quick twist of the pole, and tightening the guys sorted it
out.
Still a lot of folk saying NO QTC, and an awful lot sending GU0SUP GU0SUP
GU0SUP DE XX0XX XX0XX XX0XX when calling - AND when giving the exchange!
If only some folk realised just how much QTC's can enhance your score!
10m was in excellent shape, and I even managed all 10 call areas of the USA
on that band, and even exchanged QTC with several W6/W7's, - AND - best of
all for me - was having strong enough copy on Bob VE6YR to be able to
exchange QTC's!
