I cringed..sacrificed a chicken and upgraded one of our AP's last night. I
was prepared to drive the 30 miles and climb the 180' to the top of the
tower to do a forced reload. I insatlled version 5 of the config program,
opened the config on the ap, choose file, upgrade, use existing key....hit
yes to all the "chicken exit" questions and said a little prayer.
60 seconds later I got a message that the AP was rebooting. I started
pinging the AP's IP and waited patiently......normally it takes 45 seconds
for the thing to boot....it started responding after about 20 seconds and
all clients were re-associated.
I've been watching it pretty hard today and am VERY pleased at the
performance enhancements. Our ping times to any client on this ap were in
the range of 100ms or more, from the local router. Now they are back down
to an average of about 42ms with a few huge spikes but NOTHING like what we
were seeing previously. I'm not sure what you guys at Karlnet fixed but
dang....I'm happy!!
Now....how about that program to upgrade the ORINOCO COR's w/ an upgrade
license rather than a full license? :)
