I've been using some PRISM 2.5 100mW radios in my WIPOP, (AP-1000 running TC
4.XX) and they have been performing well. However, KN TC doesn't read the
signal or noise levels from these cards correctly (or at all). The FW
manual for the cards describe how to read those figures, why doesn't KN
provide an update to read that information? Not having signal strength
information is very upsetting. It makes it impossible to troubleshoot
problems in one's network. The PRISM 2.0 100mW radios signal strength can
be read by TC, but have hardware power problems that result in hung devices
on reboot---clearly an unacceptable state of affairs.

Bottom line, KN, please provide support for reading these signal strengths
for PRISM 2.5. Some of us need 100mW support, and the only reliable way to
get it is using 100mW PRISM 2.5 radios.

Here's how to do it:

(from the FW manual of the PRISM 2.5 radio)

CommsQuality:
This record indicates the quality of communications within the current
BSS. The firmware derives the values for the fields of this record based
on signal level and noise level measurements. During normal operation
these measurements are continuously updated by the firmware, which then
calculates CQ.currBSS based on a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). The
firmware uses this value in conjunction with the cnfSystemScale
Configuration Record (see 4.4.2.1.7 cnfSystemScale) to initiate a scan
for an AP offering better communications quality.

Field Descriptions
Name: CQ.currBSS
Description: Specifies the Communications Quality of the Basic Service
Set to which the station is currently connected. Notice that this
information is only relevant if the MAC Port is in the Enabled state
(see 4.2.1.2 Enable Command).
Format: Integer
Values: Range: 0-92; Initial: 0

Name: ASL.currBSS
Description: Specifies the Average Signal Level of the Basic Service Set
to which the station is currently connected. Notice that this
information is only relevant if the MAC Port is in the Enabled state
(see 4.2.1.2 Enable Command).
Format: Integer
Values: Range: 27-154; Initial: 27

Name: ANL.currFC
Description: Specifies the Average Noise Level of the Frequency Channel
currently used for communications. Notice that this information is only
relevant if the MAC Port is in the Enabled state (see 4.2.1.2 Enable
Command).
Format: Integer
Values: Range: 27-154; Initial: 27
