K4SBZ asked "How are you helping to promote contesting if you don't tie
into the scoreboard?"
Hmmmm.... let's see.... in 5 minutes I cam up with:
1) Operating in it,
2) Discussing it on your club's reflector and/or website and encouraging
participation in it
3) Spotting participants while they are operating
4) Doing a presentation on the contest afterwards and analyzing/sharing
operating strategy
5) Doing a detailed write-up after the contest and posting it on a
contest reflector/club website
6) Doing a multi-op and inviting other ops to operate with you and/or
inviting non-radio guests to drop by and
observe while you talk to them about what you are doing and why?
6A) As the station owner/operator you can also teach non-licensed
guests what to do and they can participate IN THE CONTEST
under your supervision!
Is that enough promoting contesting or do you need to see more?

As I understand it, one of the goals of the on line scoreboard is to
"promote contesting". If its private, then it isn't promoting. If
its
public, then, like all publicly available information, you can't
control
the use of it.
I think its one or the other, folks.
I don't tie into it and don't watch it. When I am contesting, I am
competing against my personal best or potentially a record to be
broken.
So I get my motivation from that. That is just for me personally.
