Rereading the rules, by reference to another section, the audio recording
requirement applies to all single operator non-assisted categories, including
single band entries of all power levels.
The only useful information I can imagine being obtained from such a recording
would be for determining packet assistance or post-contest log scrubbing.
Having done some QRP operating, and also a lot of low power operating with
hidden antennas, I can attest that chasing packet spots is perhaps the least
productive strategy for a QRP station.
And since much QRP operation is S&P, it is unlikely that log scrubbing could be
determined from a recording where the QRP operator is sending only his own
callsign and report.
But if the CQ Committee wants to listen to the recorded audio of the top five
USA SB/10 QRP entrants, let their fun begin!
