Jim,

As far as I am aware this rule is for the top 5 in all SOAB categories. I
really cant say about the single band efforts.

This is really disheartening to be subject to this.
I would however accept and understand the ruling if I had placed top of the
category in the world or even top EU and be subject to receiving a plaque. But
that is not the case.
When the Raw scores were published was not in the top 5... So by my reckoning
there is others who should have placed above me been reclassified or DQ
altogether too.

I thought the general idea was to encourage people to contest.
This kind of ruling really puts people off.

Im sure someone who would just decide to enter for fun and then on the off
chance place in the top 5. Whats the chances of them actually recording their
audio? Very little I say.
Then they get removed from the results. Poor show.. This would really put them
off entering again.

Now with that being said, with my result being removed. Has the person next in
the standing got a recording? If not are they removed too and then repeating
further down the list of standings? How many will actually get removed and
reclassified to an “Administrative Checklog” due to not feeling the need to
record audio . As the rule state “If Competing for a TOP 5 Place”

I have appealed the decision, but I don’t expect it to change.

Guess its just a reminder to start recording everything, even f you don’t plan
on being in the top 5, you might end up there!

I would have thought this applied only to the top five overall scores, not top
scores in individual categories. With the possible exception of the All Band
Assisted/Non-Assisted and perhaps All Band Low Power. With QRP, there is very
little running to be done, especially on SSB, so a very high percentage of QSOs
will appear in other logs, subject to verification by log cross checking.

Does the recording rule also apply to the top five entrants in the 3.7 MHz QRP
Assisted Category? (A listed category in the 2016 SSB Top Scores, as published
in the April 2017 CQ)
