Tell them to turn off the preamp and noise blanker, be sure AGC is set
to SLOW, then turn the RF Gain down until the S meter shows about S5 or
even higher. The band will sound tremendously cleaner and it will be a
lot easier to listen to without everything set to maximum. Once you can
hear without distortion and the AGC compressing everything until it
sounds like a used-car ad, phone contests are a whole lot easier to deal
with.
