CQWW SSB, at least, is not impossible for stations west of the Mississippi
to win. N5AU won M/M in the 1980's, and N2IC won SOABHP in 2013.

I take no position on whether the rules of CQWW should be changed, but a
blanket statement like "there is no way for a west coast station to compete
with one in the east coast. period" is not entirely accurate.
