There are things to prevent that from happening.
In the case of pooled blood in the legs, compression socks, pants can help.
Also standing up from the chair at regular intervals. Short walks inside
the shack.
Sleep deprivation should not be harmful if done occasionally.
I like 48 hour contesting way too much, but I'm not against reducing the
operating time either. Whatever is best for the hobby is fine with me.
If the 48 hour format is changed to a 36-hour contest for example all I
would like to see is that those who want to keep operating are allowed to
do so (but only the best 36 hours will be computed) for example..
