Albert, I think you underestimated me. My basic point was that the old
rationale for having a contest fixed on the "xth full weekend of y" is
no longer applicable, because there are plenty of ways to notify people
of a change. It's not US-centric, at all -- simply asking if more of
an effort couldn't be made to accommodate more people's real lives,
wherever they live. The greatest good for the greatest number of
participants should be the principle
In the case of Easter, it moves around a good deal on the calendar, as
you know. The Thanksgiving thing is admittedly a US holiday, but it
does prevent my participating in CQWW CW roughly 6 out of 7 years
because of family obligations. There may be nothing to be done about
that, given everything else that happens in contesting during the fall
season, but why not at least take a look at it?

Pete,
Somewhat surprised that you raised this.
WPX is a global contest.
Easter will generally be observed from March 29-April 1 in most of
the Americas and European Union, while certain countries in Asia
Pacific may observe to a lesser degree. It is not celebrated in Asia
to any degree. In Eastern Europe and Russia, Easter is celebrated
slightly after the Christian observance.
CQWW has never changed it's last weekend schedule in November to
accommodate "Thanksgiving." This holiday is not observed in November
in any other country then the USA.
If a contest was a purely an USA event like, SS, it would be
nonsense  to have it on a national holiday.

Subject: [CQ-Contest] A puzzle
Just contemplating this weekend without any significant contest
activity, and wondering why WPX SSB is on Easter weekend. Why wasn't
it moved a year ago?
