Some here have proposed that we could solve the “problems” in contesting by a
variety of means, including video recordings, audio recordings, 1-hour log
deadlines, elimination of traditional single-op categories, not changing
clothes during marathons, and perhaps some other well-reasoned solutions that
have escaped my notice.
I’ve given all these proposals their due consideration, and during those
considerations I had one of those epiphany moments which occur quite frequently
for me lately, most commonly after consuming an excess of BY or XE-flavored
food.
“The Solution” formed in my mind as I considered the brilliant proposal of a
fellow from south of here who posits that single operators who cheat by taking
unclaimed assistance can be made righteous by simply declaring that all single
operators are assisted, whether they are or not. Consider the awesome power of
that proposal. We eliminate the sinner by eliminating the sin! (Note to self:
Check out that internet site offering low cost divinity licenses, and surplus
army tents suitable for revival meetings.)
“Eliminate the Sin” --- that starkly simple thought is the kernel of the Grand
Solution which will forever rid our beloved sport of the problem of cheaters.
Problem: Single ops cheat by taking unclaimed assistance?
Solution: Eliminate the Sin. Put all single ops in the Single Op Assisted
category.
Problem: Single Op Assisted QRPers and LP guys cheat by running HP
transmitters?
Solution: Eliminate the Sin. Put them all in the Single Op Assisted HP
category.
Problem: Single Op Assisted HP operators cheat by running “southern Europe
kilowatts”?
Solution: Eliminate the Sin. Put them all in the Single Op Assisted Unlimited
Power category.
Problem: Single Op Assisted Unlimited Power guys cheat by having a friend sit
in the chair while they take a much needed nap.
Solution: Eliminate the Sin. No more Single Ops. Put them all in the
Assisted Unlimited Power Multi-Op Single Transmitter category.
Problem: Assisted Unlimited Power Multi-Op Single Transmitter stations cheat by
running 2 transmitters.
Solution: Eliminate the Sin. No more M/S category. Put those righteous people
in the Assisted Unlimited Power Multi-Op Two Transmitter category
Problem: Assisted Unlimited Power Multi-Op Two Transmitter stations are found
cheating by having more than 2 active transmitters.
Solution: Eliminate the Sin. No more M/2 category. Put those transgressors in
the Assisted Unlimited Power Unlimited Transmitter category
Problem: Assisted Unlimited Power Unlimited Transmitter persist in the practice
of “scrubbing” their logs before submitting.
Solution: Eliminate the Sin. No more logs. Just send in your score.
Problem: Somebody notices that we now have only one entry category.
Solution: Eliminate the Sin. Establish a new Single Operator category. No
transmitters allowed to eliminate the possibility of cheating.
