> Its not the Americas Cup.
That's correct, Jack, it is not the America's Cup. Some contesters wish it
was, and why not? One of the things that holds contesting back is flagrant
cheating by a handful at the tops of the standings, which up until now has
gone largely unanswered. I applaud efforts by the sponsor to control that,
and by so doing making the results more meaningful.
That said, even though there is a top class of boats that most can only hope
to brush up against, there remains a thriving level of competition where
enthusiastic weekend warriors get to go out, hone their skills, enjoy the
company of their friends, and have a good time and maybe take home some
walnut. Those latter racers don't need to spend as much time or money, nor
withstand the level of scrutiny that the top level competitors do.
There is absolutely room for both in our game.
