I've never owned a TS-950DX, so I can't comment on it, but I have used a 
TS-870, for the past several years, and I hardly consider it "inferior"! I 
also have a 2nd TS-870, as a spare, but it's never been needed. However, 
everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
