I wouldn't call it crucial, but it can come in handy. When I was
running WPX CW over the weekend, I found that running cascaded
250's in my Omni 6+ was at times over constrained (easy to miss
callers who were off frequency), whereas running both 500's was too
open given the QRM level, so at times I was running with a
a 500/250 combination. Same thing when I use the TS-950SDX
over at the club station I sometimes operate from. Its nothing
scientific. I just play with the filter settings until I like what I am
hearing.
