I think this is used in one of the Scandinavian contests. It was used in the Internet Sprint last night, at least for the name part. Good 20m propagation enabled me to make 127 Qs - a lot of fun! As far as I know, the concept was first introduced by Dennis G3MXJ (now F5VHY) when he led the RSGB HF Contests Committee, round about 1980. The 'Ropoco' CW contest is still held twice a year on 80m, and you send your UK postal code (similar to zip but using letters as well) on the first contact and on subsequent contacts you send the code you just received. Hence Ropoco - ROtating POst COdes. It's a lot of fun and meets the aim of a meaningful exchange, but it's also very hard to explain what it's all about to a casual contester.
