Terry, I’m not sure about floating that winding but it’s very possible that if
your HV winding is good you might be able to abandon that other winding.
Here’s what I do know. The famous Heathkit SB1000 is notorious for having a
short from the 12 vac control winding to the HV secondary. I’ve seen this a
few times. Here’s what I did and it works fine. I abandon the 12 vac control
winding by cutting the wires short so they can’t be used. I then use a small
12v 400ma switching supply for the lifts and relay and the amp is as good as
new. So, if your transformer isn’t leaking to ground you can probably use
other parts of the transformer.

transformer.
So you can add another to the list. Also have a 99 and it has just
went south,
hoping its a shorted tube and not the tranny on that one.
I would sure be in the market for a transformer if any one has one.
