Thanks everyone,
I think I will leave the 1N4003 in there for the time being, but when I
find a 1N4001 I'll set it aside for the next time I open the box.

I ran into trouble replacing a 4002 with a 4007 some years ago. It was
in a switching power supply. The reverse recovery time increases
significantly as you go from the 4001 to the 4007. I don't know if
that is significant in your application but it is true

So I put it in and the meters work like they're supposed to. Just
worried if it affects the overload circuit. However, the amp is
running very acceptably. 25ma of Grid current at 1500 watts out.

Meters have always behaved badly. Manual says when this happens,
then D117 may be shorted. I have the amp opened, and this diode
tests shorted.
Manual says this diode "protects the overload circuit and the meters."
It's a 1N4001. I can't find any around here. I have about 1x10E18
1N4003 diodes. Can I use a 1N4003?
Thanks in advance.
