Heyboer has done several rewinds for me over the years plus replacements for
a few others at far less than Dahl at both locations.
There is another rewinder down in hillbilly land that does a lot of CB stuff
and branched into ham....cant remember the name.

Subject: Re: [Amps] Palstar Commander II VHF Amp Issue
I have verified that the XFMR
is indeed arcing over.
My crazy idea was in no way
intended to be permanent, but
just an interim fix until I can find
a replacement.
The Antek Toroids may work, I
just need to see how I can cram
them into the available space.
The 1500VA ones are too big, and
I would need to stack a pair of the
800VA units to get what I need.
I'll talk to them this week.
As an alternative, who rewinds
XFMR's these days ?
Tnx for the replies,

Hi Dick - I might do it, to confirm the transformer is in fact shorted.
I
would not use it as a permanent fix. The risk is just too great.

I picked up the 2 Meter Model,
knowing it had an issue (Main
Fuse blows). It was priced right.
I had hoped it was a problem
with the Filter Caps or Diodes,
but it looks like the HV Secondary
is arcing over to the Frame.
A replacement may not be possible
so I am looking at a substitute.
Antek looks possible and I will be
contacting them later this week.
But, the Dr. Frankenstein in me is
thinking of floating the transformer
on a piece of Plexiglass until I find
a replacement. Am I nuts or what ??
Another thought is to dis-assemble
the transformer to see if I can locate
the arc-over on the coil. But that's a
lot of work.
What is the opinion of the "floating"
idea ??
Or, does anyone have a parts unit with
a good transformer ?
