Sadly "QRO" does not stand much of a chance against cell phones. However, there are devices out there that are available that will. Of course, the FCC takes a dim view on cell phone jammers, as do many who claim that they would not be able to dial "911" should they need to. However, most every driver on the road continuously sees idiots texting, and driving erratically while talking on their cells, or worse yet trying to type on them. It makes one wonder about the "balance of risk". More and more laws are going into effect (North Carolina is voting on one now) that outlaw ALL electrical communication devices while driving. That would include Ham Radio by the way, so there is a connection to this issue, sort of. As for the "audio blasters", if they are being driven by SiriusXM or through cell phone music sites, those can be taken out too, but one wonders what a KW at 80 meters would do to unshielded audio wiring.

So, one last note .... there are those that kind of go berserk at the thought/discussion of amateur amplifiers that grossly exceed maximum legal power. Personally, I learn a lot from those discussion and enjoy them, so I am going to risk their ire by including a link to those that want to read a little bit about how the above is done. That said, I do this for a living.

That said, I do this for a living, which is why I could not resist writing. The devices that are sold at places like this are rather primitive broadband noise transmitters. The really sophisticated devices used by the military actually make the cell phone think they are talking to a real cell phone node/tower and can even redirect calls.

I would love to have some kind of QRO to knock off those idiots that insist on using their cell phones while driving! I wouldn’t mind to have something that would blast the heck of those kids that use those high power audio blasters in their cars.

We recall stories of folks running mobile *QRO* shutting down
the car over in the adjacent lane.....

I remember years ago when computerized engine management was being bothered
or destroyed by ham, public safety, and commercial radios. A big stink
resulted, plus law suits until it was corrected

It sounds like time to raise a stink again but dont expect any help from
anti radio CA.

## last time I had the 2m hand held in the company work van, I was
fiddling with it,
trying to program the correct sub audible tone in, for a repeater.
Looked up, and had just started to cross the double yellow line, on a
major hwy,
at the highest peak, on a slight right sweeper. Scared the s#@t outa me.

## Once I got so pissed off with the 2m FM handheld, while mobile on the
hwy, I
actually threw the damned thing out the drivers side window. It didnt go
anywhere,
since it was plugged into the cigarette lighter in the middle of the dash
! Gave it to my
son eventually. Around here, 2M FM and 11m is not much difference.
2m is
worse. Wife was not impressed with the crap on 2M FM..and reads me the
riot act.
The cell phone + GPS is far more useful. These days, with a Roush Mustang +
supercharger, I have to be 100 % focused at all times.
