It was the cause of the MD-11 Swissair flight 111 crash off Nova Scotia that
killed 229 people and has been noted in a number of other commercial airiner
fires that did not end up in the loss of the aircraft.

It seems that my posting regarding certain cautions that should be considered
when using polyimide wiring made by Kapton (TM) has not met with much approval
from the resident experts, in fact quite the contrary. Everyone seems to have
glowing reports about how reliable/durable/great this stuff is.
Remember please that I was only talking about CERTAIN Kapton WIRING, and I
specifically pointed out that I knew nothing about the "tape" and that it may
be just fine.
For those of you who might be curious about this issue, please read this report:
http://www.navair.navy.mil/jswag/docs/newsletters/JSWAG_Winter_2011.pdf
As you can see, this is fairly old news.
If any of you have difficulty accessing this report, I will be glad to send you
a personal email with it contained as an attachment.
Best Regards,

Also, Kapton(tm) aka polyimide tape will work FB.
It works well at high temperature and high voltage.

## I agree. Kapton..aka..polyimide is used in one helluva lot of
xfmrs by power companies, etc..and a lot of those have xfmr oil
in em...running at high temps. They don’t blow up....so the military
applications etc....and on aircraft must be a one off failure anomoly.
## I bought a lot of 10 ga polyimide magnet wire from SSON years ago,
also got it in 8 ga. rated at 15 kv. So 30 kv from turn to turn.
## Polyimide is also used..I think..for winding torroids.
## Bottom line is u wont have any problems using it with ham HV gear.
## On the L4B power supply, just be careful. The big bleeders can be tossed
in the
trash..and the 50 ohm, 50 watt glitch can be installed in the RF
deck...directly to the
miillen HV connector. No tape used.
