Hey Bill I got an idea, it's simple and probably the best way to go.
Using a small 5A variac connected to a 1RPM mini motor with a stop connected to
the rotation angle where the filament voltage is exactly 5v for a 3-500z.
When you turn the switch on the motor slowly ramps up the line voltage in
one minute to the perfect 5v mark and shuts off. This does 2 things, it
slowly ramps up the filament voltage to avoid transients and also sets the
perfect voltage as well.
