This not only makes the regulated supply much more simple as the supply 
always sees a positive load.
The value of the resistor should be of such that the supply always sees 
a normal load that never goes reversed even if the screen does.
IE if the screen draws 50 ma max when it goes negative, the resistor 
should be of a value to draw at least 55 or 60 ma from the screen 
supply.  Under those conditions the screen supply will only drop to 5 or 
10 ma and still remain positive.  You could certainly draw more current 
if the supply will handle it.
