Not Every Commercial amp uses perforated holes. I had a large Henry Rack
Mount amp built for me on 220mHz and it had screen above the tube (3cx800a7)
on the exhaust. Screen looked like about .2" spacing. You could have dropped
a BB down through but not a pea. I had a repeater with the antenna 1000" up
a broadcast tower and this amp was for that. It was in a whole building full
of video equipment and sensitive rx'ers for feed. I did not splat anything
with it even running a kw in the same room. Of course, this is just one case
and I could have been lucky. N9FUT

A side note, the input air supply opening also needs screening as rf can
leak out at that point as well.
I once purchased a homebrew 432MHz amplifier that had no screen or shield
on the cooling air exhaust right above the tube anode. The exhaust hole was
about three inches diameter. There was so much rf leaking out that the
shack computer shut down. When I asked the seller about the problem he told
me
he had operated like that for years with no problems. Sounds like a good
way to become an SK way to soon!
Yes, I did put a piece of perforated aluminum over the exhaust immediately.
