I have a microwave oven transformer here from a broken down unit. The transformer seems to be ok. Wired up the primary and got no big bangs or smoke. This transformer is apparently having some sort of magnetic shunt in the form of a bolt trough the core ? I guess it is a form of stabilization? Anybody tried this kind of transformer for plate supply ? Would it be wise to remove the bolt,- or safe ? Thanks.
