If they have the punch and die hardened enough, and use a grade 8 bolt, they
will be ok. China has been bad for marking grade 5 or less bolts as grade 8 and
selling them. Since it's 7/16" fine thread, a replacement wouldn't be hard to
get. Ace Hardware just down the road carries them. I think I'd check the bolt
the first thing. If it's threads pulled, you could end up with a ruined punch.
7/16" sounds too small though for a punch over 3/4". They generally change in
size over that. I think the one punch set I seen in their last catalog was
about $19.99 (the one with the vinyl case). I'll have to look for the others.
Now if we could get a Chinese made hydraulic driver, that would be the berries
as they'd be afforadable. Until they do, that electric impact will take its
place.

The punches are dark metal and they do look strong enough to go through chassis
thickness metal be it aluminum or steel, the threaded bolt from drawing the bit
through the metal is 7/16th in diameter. Looked fairly sturdy to me for harbor
freight stuff.

I have two Harbor Freight outlets pretty close. On is at Crosslanes, WV, and
another in Lexington, Ky. The one at Crosslanes is about a 45 minute drive, and
Lexington about a 2 to 2-1/2 Hr drive. Another place that's close, and really
close to Crosslanes is Blueridge Machine that advertizes a lot in the hobby
magazines. I've bought a bunch from them too, and they carry about all the
inported machine tools. I'm going to go up there one day and see what the tools
look like, You can get burnt by buying them without seeing them. Some Chinese
tools have a bad reputation of being too soft and will bend. I just hope when I
go they have a wheelchair ramp so I can get inside. Even though by law all new
commercial construction supposed to have access, you would be surprised how
many don't. If I get to go before long, I'll list anything on here that would
be ok to use for amp construction.

Yea, I seen those and were the ones I was refering to. They have a little vinyl
carrying case with them. Their a pretty nice set and probably as good as others
as long as they have been hardened properly. They are an Asian, and probably
Chinese import.
