This is becoming a little boring, but my 2 cents:
The most sand poundingly dumb thing to come along these lines was a move to 
convert nautical charts to metric. There is a good valid reason for the 
nautical mile, as anyone who has performed the math used in celestial 
navigation knows.

A bureaucrat may be given power, but he can't be given wisdom.
