I experimented half heartedly with the same idea but it didn't progress.
While I didn't succeed, someone with more resolve will probably do better.
A decent 2m tank circuit needs much better screening metalwork than you get,
and it seemed more difficult making something to fit inside than to make
something new. Drilling/cutting/filing the steel chassis didn't appeal
unless I totally dismantled it so I was back to thinking it's easier to
start from scratch with ally.
Connecting to 8875s at 2m isn't so easy. Flying leads from the topcaps is
far from ideal, and making a reliable connection to the cooler if you use a
wide stripline presents some interesting mechanical problems. If you look at
changing to a different tube, the HT side of the PSU will suit a pair of GI7
triodes which can use the existing axial fan, or 3CX800/4CX800, both of
which need a proper pressure blower - more mechanical issues, and problems
finding the space for it.
I like the 2500 package, it's very neat, but I figured it was best left for
50MHz or lower.
