Subject: [Amps] Re: Ameritron 811
Most likely the tube in the socket with the blown resistor has
developed an
internal short.
I have never heard of an anode-grid short in an 811A.
Call Ameritron and ask for replacement tubes if they are
under warranty. I have repaired two 811s where one or two of the
811 tubes
have internally shorted, causing the 51 ohm resistors to repeadly
fail until
the tubes were replaced. There is a high failure rate with the 811
tubes
MFJ/Ameritron is supplying with new amplifiers. They appear to be of
the
cheapest Chinese variety. One owner gave up after two replacement
sets from
MFJ, and went with a set from RF Parts, and has not had the cover
off of the
amp since!
