GREAT hint! I think this needs to be considered in tuners as well. Both Dentron and MFJ units I have had smoked the inductor switch which was a pain to fix when a sacrificial gap could have been provided (even used as an indicator), thus saving much time and trouble.

is it possible to see on the spacing between the plates in an air spaced variable C howmuch the maximum usable voltage is ????
