Thank You Lane, your analogies are humoring and add flavor to your response!  
You make good points!  Jus for the record, it seems that most fellas like the 
AL-1200 for the ruggedness of the tube.  It seems to be the amp of choice 
among most for that reason as well as the "instant on"  that has been mentioned
