For a look at something built for HF with handles (screw eye hooks),
there is a neat article in the 1997 IEEE Plasma Physics Conf
proceedings, by folks at Princeton. They converted the 800 kW CW, 80
MHz cavity power amplifier, with the Eimac 8973 tetrode, down to 30
MHz, and re-tubed it with the 4CM2500KG pyrolytic grid tube. Built a
lumped element pi network for the output out of cavity components
(large pipe). Got >2 MW continuous out of it at that point. The
original cavity was the Continental Electronics FMIT (fusion
materials irradiation test) amplifier of where there are numerous
copies at various labs in the USA. Keep an eye out for them at your
local hamfest.
There are a lot of ~operators~ on 11 meters and +/- a few MHz who
would love to punch their PTT with this rig. Being near Hoover Dam
power station might be useful.
