This is the type I have. It is the same as what I used while I was =
station on the USS America (CV-66). I'm sure there is an NSN somewhere =
on it. These were also used up in the radar rooms, TACAN & IFF lockers =
too. I'll bet you could find them at a government surplus auction for a =
song.=20

  Ok what is a GOOD shorting stick? I don't think a screwdriver counts.
    Seems a friend used one on 2800v supply and it came through it and =
blew his fingernail off.

    What is the best way to make one?

    The one I have here was either military or commercial.
    No name on it; but I'll bet it cost the tax payers big bucks.

    The handle is a 1 inch plexiglass rod, 14 inches long. One end
    of the rod has 1/4" X 20 threads in it. A 6 inch copper rod,
    rounded at the "business end" and threaded on the other is
    screwed into the plexiglass rod. There is a 3 foot length of
    1/2 inch braid encased in clear plastic tubing that is soldered
    to a lug where the copper and plexiglass rod join. The joint is
    secured with a 1/4 inch lockwasher and nut to hold the solder lug =
tight=20
    against the plexiglass rod. There is a giant alligator clip with a
    huge boot on it at the far end of the braid that clips to ground/
    chassis. The graph on the board all this mounts on says it is good
    for discharging up to 5 mfd at 25,000 volts, or 1000 mfd at=20
    2000 volts. 50 mfd at 6000 volts is also in the safe range.

    This is overkill for most of us, but it can be scaled down some.

    (((73)))
    Phil, K5PC
