I have used MHV (similar to BNC but with more insulation and slightly 
different size) connectors with RG-59 coaxial cable for many years with no 
problems.  

My power supply is 4KV, but the cable is rated for even higher voltage.

These connectors are relatively inexpensive ($6-8) and easy to use.  Just be 
sure to take great care when assembling the male connector on the cable.

Good luck.  You should be able to find these at Ham Fests or surplus stores.
