Answer is sometimes. Commonly available disc ceramics have poor
temperature tolerance at the higher values. At the 100W level even the
best 1KV types get warm. Silver mica caps up to 10000pf are available at
modest price from Mouser. I also carry a wide selection and there are
probably many other sources.
BTW, Dentron offered a relay switched tuned input for the later L's.
