amen.  This is seemingly one of the oversights in the AL-1200 and 1500.

E.F. Johnson used to rate #12 ga. copper wire inductors for 5A max.

Some commercial amplifiers employ forced air cooling on tank inductors 
and on tank bandswitches.  .
