Comments:
Yesterday I replaced my over-aged RG-213 with
75 ohms CATV-coax. The 20 m tall vertical is
end-fed, so impedance does not matter much.
Guess I am at minimum loss, and the foam coax
takes high SWR. But the bands did not return
my improvement. On 14 MHz everything was damped.
At 1338Z I did QSY to 7 MHz, but the MT-3000A
tuner stopped following the controls. After
fighting for 10 minutes I went back to 14 MHz
with a similar failure, so I continued with the
new dipole that I threw into the tree during the
weekend. Actually USA was better on the dipole
which is due to its placement (low but broadside
to VE/W). The vertical has anti-phase currents in
the lower and upper part (full wave on 20 m), so
it is better suited for Europe, and 7 MHz (when it
gets the juice). Cheers/73, Zaba OH1ZAA #1856
