Wacky propagation to say the least. The good thing about being a
little pistol is that a vertical antenna may actually be better
on a weekend like this, because the RF goes everywhere...
Since my weekends a growing more crowded with family/kid stuff,
I decided to quit being so passive and just call CQ like one
of the big boys, even if I'll never have their antennas.
Good strategy. Close to 60% of my Q's were from CQ's. I even
managed a few EU mults from OH & SM on Sunday.
One call though from ZL really made me scratch my head - at
1630Z. I looked on the grey line map and found it hard to
believe, but the sun rises in New Zealand just over 4 hours
after it comes up in DC at this time of year. Go figure.
Missed the early hours because of a company Xmas party.
Had to QRT with over 3 hours to go for the father-in-law's
birthday gathering. It didn't matter, because I still had
a lot of fun.
I like the challenge of these low cycle years. They probably
weed out some who just like to get on the air and run stations
at 100+/hour, but don't like to grind away for hours to get
to 100 total.
Managed to do some SO2R even though my antennas are too close.
Probably 25 Q's and a couple mults. It so fractured my ears
and brain that the left side of my head was tingling.
