Just started back in on 160 for the season a couple of weeks ago.
I've been hearing beacons in the band and wondered if anybody knew
what or where these were. Specifically, while trying to hear Martti
on Market Reef on 1830 I heard two different CW identifiers. One was
4JU then a long tone, the second was IE4 and a tone. I'm hearing one
on 1825 as well (I think it's OE if memory serves).
Just curious of these are something in the amateur service or if
they're aviation/marine nav beacons?
Also, just FYI, I put up an Array Solutions AYL-4 (K9AY loop) this
summer. Has made an improvement over trying to receive on the
inverted L, but still can't get most spotted signals here. No 3B7, no
OJ0. Sigh. Still a great antenna, though I wish I had the real-estate
to keep it far from the TX wires.
